Will Honda be able to Jazz up the small car market this time around?

Value-seeking Indian buyers refused to pay a high premium for the small Jazz and preferred a sedan at the same price

Sometime next month, Honda Cars India Ltd will unveil its third generation Jazz. It will be the second shot by the firm at the small car market that sells seven out of 10 cars in the country and where Maruti Suzuki India Ltd and Hyundai Motor India Ltd have held pole positions for several years.
According to Jnaneswar Sen, senior vice president, sales and marketing, Honda Car India Ltd., the earlier generation failed to take off as it was ahead of its time. So what gives the local arm of the Japanese car maker a lot more confidence?

Over the last two years, ever since Honda discontinued Jazz, car buying behaviour has evolved. The buyers are getting younger and they don’t have the traditional mindset of a typical car buyer who considers only a sedan or a sports utility vehicle when scaling up to a higher segment from an entry level model, says Sen citing consumer surveys.

The brisk sales expansion in the premium hatchback segment that includes models such as Maruti Suzuki Swift and Hyundai Elite conforms to Sen’s hypothesis. In 2014-15, the segment advanced 10% to 1,078,589 units against a year ago. However, of this, seven out of 10 models were sold either by Maruti or Hyundai—a reason good enough for any new entrant to be worried about. Honda currently sells the Brio in the segment but the volumes are far from satisfactory.

Having received flak from the buyers in its earlier avatar, the company plans to price the model more competitively — a result of high share of locally sourced components as against imported parts.

Honda Cars India gears up to introduce the new Jazz

Expected to launch in June 2015.

Honda Cars India has turned its attention towards pre-launch activities for the Jazz ahead of its anticipated touch down in June-July 2015. The company had originally planned to put the car on the market in the first quarter of this calender year.

Production constraints from the City and Amaze variants persisting, the Jazz launch had to been pushed to mid-2015. Honda’s global hatchback is based on the new City’s platform, and will be equipped with the 1.5-liter diesel engine and the 1.2-liter petrol engine. To keep prices competitive, Honda will heavily localize the model, whose production has already begun exclusively for South African exports in Tapukara, Rajasthan since January.

Honda hikes prices of Brio, Amaze marginally

Honda Cars India has hiked prices of its entry level car Brio and compact sedan Amaze by up to Rs 800 to offset change in cost structure following tax rationalization in the Budget.

Brio prices have been hiked by Rs 600 while those of petrol and diesel variants of Amaze have been enhanced by Rs 800 with effect from April first week.

After the hike, Brio is priced between Rs 4.21 lakh and Rs 6.79 lakh, while Amaze is priced at Rs 5.18 lakh and Rs 8.21 lakh (all prices ex-showroom Delhi).

• Servicing, Manufacturer

First things first, even if your vehicle’s running without any issues, like it always should, don’t bother skipping its scheduled service. There are some reasons behind this why you should not skip scheduled services. Not only check-up by a technician ensure that the car’s fluids – engine oil, gearbox oil, brake fluids, coolant, etc. – are working properly, but it also means that the vehicle is checked for its normal behavior, too.

And let’s not forget, that it’s not just the external cleaning that the car service center guys take care of. The engine needs cleaning as well, which is needed for the vehicle’s well being.

Most car manufacturers also organise service camps to enable free car check-ups, regular servicing, and various other promotions during summer, winters and rainy seasons. This are also known as Seasonal Service Camps. It's best to take benefits of these services provide by your manufacturer.

Oil and air filters need to be replaced at certain intervals, which is also taken care of by the service center.

Honda Cars India introduces new VX(O) grade in Honda City with Advanced Integrated AVN

Honda Cars India Limited (HCIL), leading manufacturer of premium cars in India, today announced the introduction of the new VX(O) grade in the Honda City range. Fourth generation Honda City achieves 1 lakh sales mark

Honda Cars India's flagship mid-sized sedan City has achieved one lakh sales mark in just 15 months after its launch in January 2014.
